The 51-year-old singer and her 22-year-old model boyfriend had a bust-up after he was left feeling "stupid" and "wounded" when she admitted she would rather "get run over by a train" than wed for a third time during a US TV interview last week.
A source said: "Madonna and Jesus rarely fight but he was really wounded by what she said. He said she had made a fool of him. He talks to his friends and family about her all the time, telling them they are in a serious relationship. When she went on TV to deny it he thought it made him seem stupid. They had a huge row."
Although they patched things up after the argument, Jesus - who has been dating Madonna since they appeared together in a raunchy photo shoot late last year - has been left devastated by the 'Celebration' singer's reluctance to tie the knot with him.
The source told Britain's the Sun newspaper: "He told his friends he was planning on marrying her and was heartbroken to learn in such a public way they weren't on the same page."
Madonna - who has four children, daughter Lourdes, 12, son Rocco, nine, and adopted children, David and Mercy, both four - recently admitted there are some aspects of married life she misses.
The pop star - who was previously married to movie director Guy Ritchie and actor Sean Penn - said: "Being a single parent means you're kind of in charge of everything. You can't say, 'Hey, can you give the kids a bath while I do something else.' There's no job sharing."
