Roadside Romeo (Film Review)

Roadside Romeo (animation)

Cast: Voice of Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Javed Jaffrey Direction: Jugal Hansraj :

THE animation is fine. The voice-overs are perfect. The backdrop is colourful. But the story is overridden with cliches. So what's new about a big fat doggy don, Charlie Anna, who takes hafta and terrorises the smaller doggies in his street. And what's new about a poodle-like night club singer who falls in love with a roadside Romeo because he's not like the other scruffy mongrels in her bustee. And finally, what's so original about the don and the doggone kutta being rivals in love! The story is completely predictable, as is the narration about an English-speaking dog, Romeo (Saif) who forms a street gang of his own and falls in love with pesky club dancer, Laila, who rehearses on roof tops in full moon nights. Romeo sets up a thriving saloon and ends up collecting a treasure of bones which soon become a bone of contention between him and the neigbourhood dada, Charlie Anna (Javed). Romeo not only refuses to pay the mandatory hafta , he also dares to fall in love with Anna's fav girl, Laila. Time for a real gang warfare. Only, Romeo isn't a bloodhound and prefers to get away with a bit of trick and treat. Eventually, it's Dogvilla against the predator humans and both Anna and Romeo do their little bit to keep the Doggy paradise safe and sound.
