3D iPhone coming soon?

Your next iPhone may let you watch 3D films on-the-go and without you wearing those silly 3D glasses.
The next Apple iPhone might be able to show films and play videogames in 3D, it has emerged.

Apple has been granted a patent for a “three-dimensional display system” able to display 3D videos without the need for you to wear the special 3D glasses that most existing 3D TVs do.

Simon Piper, business development manager at Mobilechoices.co.uk said: “The next iPhone needs a really special feature if it’s going to be a hit, and 3D could be just the ticket.

“Although Apple’s patent doesn’t specifically refer to a 3D iPhone, it’s hard to imagine what else the company would use the technology for.”

But Apple’s 3D dream - whatever gadget it’s intended for - doesn’t stop at mere glasses-free 3D. The patent also mentions a way of allowing two people to simultaneously watch different 3D shows from the same screen.

For example, you could watch 3D football on your iPhone while your partner watches a 3D movie on the same screen at exactly the same time.

It’s been rumoured that Apple could launch a new iPhone - the iPhone 5 - in 2011, though the company hasn’t officially announced plans for another model.
